You have invested in cutting edge medical billing technology. You brought in a high priced expert to make sure the system was implemented correctly. This should start the money flowing in, unless you have a group of mediocre medical billers. You need a world class medical billing team. Putting such a team in place requires four components:

1) Set up a cadre of tools, individuals and policies to insure you find, hire and retain the best employees:

Medical billing is a critical function and the process for finding and selecting medical billing employees must reflect the criticality of the job. You would not hire an accountant or an attorney based upon a few questions about what they liked or did not like about previous jobs, you should not hire medical billers with any less rigorous a process. Install multiple interviews and multiple testing levels. Test for billing knowledge, work style and work effort. Check references and check criminal history.

The leading billing organizations train to develop desired quality. Junior staff members must pass demanding training programs-junior team members are developed into billers, capable of following the measured and monitored billing process. In addition, staff is trained throughout the year in latest payer rules, follow-up techniques and compliance guidelines. A dedicated Compliance Officer is responsible for all additional HIPAA and OIG training.

If you do not remove weak performers from your team they will demoralize the entire group and will bring most people down to their level of performance. It is. Unfortunately true, that on bad apple can spoil the bunch. Each year remove the weakest members of the team based upon clear performance metrics.

2) Focus your team members: The best medical billing processes are designed to allow individuals to specialize in specific areas such as charge posting, insurance follow-up or payment posting. Such specialization allows the individuals to become true experts capable of spotting issues quickly that billers spending their time performing multiple tasks might miss.

3) Invest heavily in analytical efforts: Continuous improvement of the billing process and the billing team requires significant and on-going analytical efforts. By measuring key factors about both payers and the billing process, a billing group can speed up collections, lower denials and lower the cost of the billing process.

4) Compensate your medical billing specialists based upon performance, not effort: Your billing department should succeed when the practice succeeds. Many good billing systems have been undermined by a compensation approach that does not give the medical billing team the proper motivation to doggedly and efficiently pursue the practice’s claims. Remember to insure the compensation system falls with the OIG’s guidelines.

If you follow these guidelines you can assemble, develop and retain a world-call medical billing team. The results will be well worth the efforts of assembling the team.

by Mike Bridges

You might not realize it now, but the equipment and furniture you put in your office can really impact the productivity of your workers. If you want your business to be successful, you must keep this in mind.

The office furniture in use at your company can have effects of the health of your employees. The wrong office furniture can lead to sore backs, stiff necks and injured wrists. Employees who are in pain are less productive and of course, unhappy.

Fortunately, ergonomic office furniture is widely available today. This furniture is designed with both health and comfort in mind; leading to higher productivity in offices who choose to use this office furniture.

Besides office furniture, you should also think about the office equipment your employees use. The right office equipment can have a huge impact on productivity. You need to make sure that your employees are using good quality computers, servers, monitors and the like; this will help them to get more done compared to a staff who must struggle with out of date hardware and software.

Computers and printers aren’t the only important office equipment, though. Imagine how frustrated and unproductive your employees would be if, for example, the copy machine they needed to use on a daily basis constantly refused to copy properly. What if important documents needed to be shredded and the paper shredder was jammed? Problems like these can put everyone in your office behind schedule, not to mention in a bad mood. So, it’s good business to get the best office equipment that you can and maintain it well.

You’re probably like every other business owner – wondering whether the more expensive office furniture and office equipment is really a good deal and worth the extra expense.

While price is a genuine concern, so is the aesthetic quality of your office furniture. No matter how comfortable the office furniture may be, if it is terribly unattractive, your staff will not look forward to coming to work. You should aim to make your office a comfortable place where employees look forward to coming to in the morning.

A little comfort can go a long way. A comfortable employee is a happy employee – and a productive one as well. You should opt for comfortable office furniture rather than whatever happens to be on sale that week. The extra expense will be repaid a thousand fold in increased productivity and better office morale.

At the same time, you might want to stay clear of cheap office equipment, too. After all, you don’t want your workers to hate certain activities, like sending faxes, just because the fax machine has gone crazy or the shredder is making shrieking noises, instead of shredding, right? All that will do is cause unnecessary stress in the office.

So, is it really worth it to save a few dollars, if your company’s productivity is suffering from it? Consider your workers and their comfort and safety. Furnish your office with items that will enhance their working experience. You’ll be glad that you did!

by Craig Calvin

The IT industry has not been untouched by the variations and defects. Though many times IT technology is the solution to help reduce variations and defects, IT sector companies are themselves facing situation that necessitate them to apply improvement methodologies like Six Sigma. Six Sigma is very popular with IT companies, because it provides them with a good solution to increase their capabilities and services.

The manufacturing industry and IT industry have similarities, being that they neither one face many challenges. The biggest one they may see would be deadlines being missed in lengthy projects. Many instances leave Six Sigma limited to a single project alone.

The answer to this dilemma is the meshing Lean tools and methods with Six Sigma. They can easily be used in conjunction with each other, and being quite efficient in places of high variances and wastes. These result in defects, which are Six Sigma specialties. It is sometimes hard to determine total wastes, and Lean is useful in this aspect.

The best way to bring about improvements is to use Lean concepts and tools to assess such concern areas of the project that are responsible for the drawbacks. By undertaking such an assessment, or in other words “leaning out” the processes, it becomes easy to analyze and examine the quality issues using Six Sigma tools and techniques. The causes for variation can be figured out with the help of various Six Sigma tools. This approach of leaning out projects to be taken under the Six Sigma scanner yields good results in the selected process areas.

Analyzing a larger scope of the project allows movement towards cost reduction by seeing where quality is poor, thus lowering costs. There is not a one size fits all solution. With Lean and Six Sigma working together, problem areas are taken care of and overall success can be seen.

by Landon McGehee

There are many things you should keep in mind when thinking about the different types of credit cards that are available to you. You should think about how you will use the credit card and why you need the card. You also should consider what the annual percentage rate (APR) and fees are, and if you plan to pay your debt each month or if you plan to keep a balance.

If you plan to pay your bill in full each month, you won’t have to worry about many fees or the APR. If you need to carry a balance, on the other hand, you will have to figure out where you will come up with the extra money to pay finance fees and accumulated interest from the APR. It’s also important to ask yourself if you plan to use the cash advance option on your card, and if you can repay that money plus any fees that are associated with it. You must ask yourself these questions because credit cards are a significant responsibility and should not be taken lightly.

You need to ask your creditor what the terms are of your credit card and what the APR is. Many cards factor in an APR when you have late fees, purchases, cash advances, and balance transfers. This is only a brief checklist about the terms and questions you should keep in mind when working with your potential creditor. There may be other questions and issues that you’ll want to consider when using a credit card.

Interest

Interest is a very important term to understand. The rates can change dramatically based on your credit score and how you pay your bills. Some creditors have tier rates, fixed rates, and variable rates. The fixed rates may be a better option for you.

Grace Periods

You must understand what a grace period means. The grace period is the amount of time that you have to pay your balance without accruing charges. If you go over your cycle, your creditor may charge you finance fees, additional interest rates, and penalties. You should ask your potential creditor if the balance carryover has penalties and what those charges will be. Also ask if you will receive any benefits for paying your balance in full each cycle. You also should ask if there are penalties on cash advances.

Finance Fees

Learn all you can about the finance fees on the credit card that you would like to have. Credit cards often include fees for advances, fees for late payments, and fees for other miscellaneous charges. You should ask several questions about finance fees. These questions should include about whether the lender estimates fees by a one or two cycle, if the fees are adjusted, or if the fees are standard. You also should ask if the there is a minimum finance charge per item and what that charge is.

Charges

Ask if the card has additional fees besides the finance charges. Those fees may include late charges, credit limit override fees, late charges, and setup fees.

Cash

Ask your creditor about the amount you can borrow and what fees you will have to pay for using a cash advance.

Type of Credit Cards

You need to know what types of credit cards are available. You should ask if they are standard cards, or if they are secured cards, Premium cards, or ordinary unsecured cards.

Credit Limits

All credit cards have some type of credit limits. There are no exceptions; the credit limit is usually determined on an individual basis. If you have excellent credit, for example, you usually will receive a large line of credit. You should always know what your credit limit is and make sure that you are not going over your credit limit.

Perks

Many credit cards offer cardholders various perks or benefits. These may include cash rewards, airline miles, gift certificates for online retailers, and other rewards for good credit ratings. This gives cardholders the ability to avail of 0% apr or to get some of their money back from using the card. Make sure that you know the details of your awards program. The details will change from creditor to creditor.

Insurance

Check to see if there is fraud insurance for your cards. This insurance will cover your costs if there are charges on your card that you didn’t make. Ask your potential creditor how much protection you have and how much you will have to pay if your cards are lost or stolen.

A lot of us may not even think about it, but the choice of office furniture and other equipment around your office can have a huge impact on the productivity level of the workers in that office. As a business owner, this is something which you should take note of.

Your office furniture can even affect the health and well-being of your staff. Having the wrong office furniture can cause problems for your employees in their backs, necks and wrists. An employee who is in pain is not a terribly productive employee, as a rule.

Luckily, a wide range of ergonomically designed office furniture is now available. This is office furniture which is made with comfort and health in mind which can foster higher productivity in your office.

Every business owner, including you, goes through the argument with themselves over whether to get furniture and equipment that is a good deal or splurge on the more expensive stuff.

Price is a concern, but it is only one concern among many. You also should think about how your office furniture looks. Even if you have the most comfortable office furniture in the world, if it is unappealing to look at, your employees won’t look forward to coming to their desks every day. Your office should be a place where your staff enjoys going every day.

You’d be surprised at how far a little comfort can go. Comfortable employees are happier and more willing to work hard. Accordingly, you may want to buy comfortable furniture instead of whatever is on sale. If your employee morale is up, your business will be more successful.

Is it really worth sacrificing your company’s productivity and employee morale to save a little money on office furniture. You’ll have stressed employees with sore backs and missed deadlines; it’s better to spend just a little more on high quality office furniture and equipment – your profit margin will thank you later.

In todays environment of more engineer-to-order philosophies, companies are looking for manufacturing methods that are unique and that will allow for level of differentiation from their closest competitors to allow them to enjoy sustained margins. The topics challenging even the best of engineer to order companies lie in the areas of estimating, purchasing, building, testing, shipping, on-site tryout and debug and then final commissioning. These complex manufacturers can use technology to help sustain a manufacturing advantage over the long term. The modern technology offered by the best erp software providers and their legions of consulting resources continually comes back to the following key areas listed below.

Invest in new technology. While many ETO companies do not think twice about spending $250,000 on new equipment to make their plant more efficient, they balk at spending the same amount on ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software that will have a much more dramatic bottom-line impact than a single machine tool. This technology is not limited to ERP, and includes CAD, project management, PLM, and Configuration software. The companies who view spending money on infrastructure as a competitive advantage typically outperform companies who elect to not spend the capital on further developing their infrastructure.

Focus on niche markets. Competing based on price with a “commodity” machine builder is futile. Focusing on engineering a solution based on client needs creates product and industry sector distinction. Typically, the larger, more expensive machines need more services and support and generate an alternative revenue stream. That revenue stream can become the predicatable factor in the operating budget as they require well trained technicians to service the complex equipment.

Lean thinking throughout the whole organization. Lean manufacturing cuts costs and inventories rapidly to free cash and resources, which is critical in a competitive world economy. Lean supports profitable growth by improving productivity and quality, reducing lead times, and freeing resources. For example, it frees cash flow and reduces the total manufacturing area and increases capacity so companies can add product lines, in-source component production, and increase output of existing products. ETO manufacturers that begin to leverage lean concepts can enjoy gains of renewed economic growth by increasing sales while controlling costs.

New markets. Most engineer to order manufacturing organizations are small family-owned businesses that have traditionally relied exclusively or predominantly on the domestic market. Quite a bit of potential growth exists in overseas markets for ETO manufacturers. Even domestically, ETO manufacturers are finding alternative opportunities among smaller factories that require automation equipment. The more quick to adapt modern ETO companies are able to better adapt to the changes requested of their customers in a shorter amount of time, allowing them to take advantage of technology shifts long before their larger competitors have a feel for the change required.

Company executives often complain about the challenges of operating an ETO manufacturing business: too much regulation, the cost of health care, unfair competition from overseas. Waiting for the government to do something about these issues, these small, often privately owned companies will suffer the consequences of inaction by withdrawing themselves from the landscape. The ETO manufacturers that are going to survive are implementing some of the strategies described above. Truly lean and progressive engineer to order firms will always thrive, even during difficult economic times.

Making your Adwords campaign successful is as elementary as ABC

by Brian Basch

Making your Adwords campaign successful is as elementary as ABC

A) Try to select Keywords that specifically target your niche market. It is certainly very tempting to just use the search engine database to find frequently searched keywords. However this will not work for you. These keywords will be popular but not relative to your market. They will simply draw a great deal of traffic but no sales. A better idea is to concentrate on choosing keywords that will attract potential customers.

B) Take some time to choose your keywords. You need to have an exact blend of broad based and highly specialized keywords. This means that they will draw traffic but also bring in sales. Always bear in mind that you will be paying for those clicks, even if they do not bring in sales. An ad that has lots of traffic without making any sales will be just draining your money.

C) Be aware of the amount you can spend and the worth of your keyword. Of course search engines are savvy and will know how much a high paying click is worth to them. They place the highest bids in the most favorable positions, so you get what you pay for. More money equals more exposure. Theoretically a better position will give both you and the search engines more profits.

However this is often not so, your sales must cover your costs, in order to justify the expense of having a top position. You need to make a fine balance and this can be challenging.

D) It is vital for your success to keep an eye on your campaign. Detailed management of your campaign is important. Keeping a close watch on your campaigns will make sure that you do not lose a great deal of money.

Savvy marketers know the value of micromanaging their campaigns. Nipping small problems in the bud will save you a lot of time and money further down the road. In fact you will not regret spending a small amount of time on your campaign when you see an increase in sales

There is no doubt about it Google Adwords is challenging. Bidding and keywords are sometimes hard to learn. However once you know all about the details of your campaign you will be an expert marketer.

So keep these important lessons in mind. Understand their significance so that you can take action. Once you do this you will have the vital keys to Internet marketing success and make the profits you deserve.

Business opportunities exist around us all the time. How often have you seen a product and felt that you could have had that idea? How many times have you seen a valuable product and known that you could sell it to all of your friends and relatives?

by Franta Shinsky

Business opportunities exist around us all the time. How often have you seen a product and felt that you could have had that idea? How many times have you seen a valuable product and known that you could sell it to all of your friends and relatives?

The problem with any business idea, whether it is your own invention or taking on something like a franchising opportunity, is how to find the right help in getting started. Many people have ideas or see products that they might want to sell, but they need information or a helping hand to get them started. When you get to that point you have to ask yourself where to find real people reviews about business opportunities. Thatas what you want, right? Someone who has been there! Done that! You want to be taken to the positive experiences and to be in the know about the negative ones by people who have already tried them out.

Forget about doing your ‘research’ in a coffee shop. Talking to strangers is not the best way to get information about business opportunities in your area, and asking for their opinions won’t help you much. Most of them won’t even know about the opportunities that are available, especially those you’re particularly interested in.

Local newspapers and magazines are a better bet. Often, you can find business publications that review upcoming businesses in your area. Expect to find interviews with people who are in those businesses. Some of these businesses may have opportunities for you!

Many towns have radio programs dedicated to business topics, and occasionally one will cover business opportunities. If nothing else, this type of programming can provide you with valuable information and key contacts for your business once it gets started. The radio personalities on these shows might also be able to direct your search locally for business opportunities and those who have experience in those opportunities.

The richest and fastest source is undoubtedly the Internet. It provides both information about opportunities and reviews from real people. Search smartly to find the opportunities you want. For instance, if you are looking to start a franchise, start up a search engine and use ‘franchise’ as your keyword, or ‘business opportunity’. Online communities are also a great resource; search for a community of people who are in your kind of business and network with them.

Similarly, local communities often have networks related to businesses, and these could be a source of information for you. For example, most communities have computer user groups that meet monthly to discuss various topics. Such groups could provide you with the reviews that you need or at least be stepping stones toward your goal.

When pursuing a business opportunity, do request references from the franchise or current business owner. This is a good way to find out which skills you will need to pursue the opportunity, and which types of people are generally succesful in a business like yours.

Business opportunities are easy to come by, but finding one that will work for you is a lot more difficult. Knowing people with experience in the field will help you discover which business opportunity is right for you. With the support of those who have gone before you, you can move forward with confidence.

by Franta Shinsky

One has to be aware when it comes to earning money online. Some people do make some income by working over the internet. However, there are still a lot of people that lose a considerable amount of money by participating in online scams.

With all of the scams that pop up on the Internet that refer to money making, is it a reality that money can be made online without it being a scam? Of course, there are many legit ways to make money on websites that pay people for their services.

So what do people need to look for to identify a legit site or a scam? One thing to avoid is to resist paying fees upfront for things like membership fees or material fees. This just doesnat make sense because businesses do not ask for payment for hiring a new person.

Many people have used a variety of different online money making services and have also been victimized by internet scams. So when you are about to being your own at home business, take your time to read about the site and look for legit testimonials provided by previous or current users.

Many different self employment opportunities are available on the internet. The most common tend to be those which use you to read advertisements, e-mails, complete online surveys, or by doing other little paid jobs. However it is important to once again look into the legitimacy of the site you are thinking about using.

Be aware of sites that offer a large amount for completing a survey. Most online survey website only pay a small fee for doing such work. Also be aware of survey websites that ask you to pay a one-time refundable fee which could equate anywhere from 40-100 dollars because they could be fraudulent sites.

Sometimes when you pay a one-time fee to get surveys you will never actually get any work or your money back. This is why it is important to read reviews before participating in online surveys. By reading the reviews you can determine if it is a scam or not.

When you are looking for legit online business opportunities look on the internet for websites and the reviews of those websites. If you are having difficulty finding reviews then you can narrow your search by using keywords. Remember, if you want to be safe and do not want to fall for a scam then it is important to read customer reviews.
